Life has a happy ANDing

Excerpt from Rebecca Alden's Master Thesis on Ampersand

Excerpt from Rebecca Alden

You know why fairy tales end with “AND they lived happily ever after”?

Because the BUT wouldn’t do the trick.

If you want to live life to the fullest, if you want to give your daily life a daily happy ANDing, start signing off with some more ANDs instead of all your BUTs.

BUTs are fine. Sometimes. They keep you safe. At least, for a while.

BUTs are the locks on your front door, the iron gate at the end of your driveway, the fence around your property, the armour in battle, the tough look, the smile-when-you-have-to-smile-because-it’s-demanded-to, …

The BUTs are the panopticons.

ANDs are the opposite.

What’s your choice?

Here are two great websites to start your journey: Ampersand Master Thesis (by tinge) and The Ampersand.

PS: since I believe in life as a movement (and not a static thing) I have

  • faith in moving around
  • a passion for moving around
  • an interest in everything and everyone that moves
  • ANDs & BUTs

Have a great weekend.
